Summer’s End

The days are getting shorter, school bells are ringing, and fall is just around the corner—but seasonal farmers’ markets are still going strong.

In August and September, we are throwing those last summer barbecues, but also packing lunchboxes and signing up to bring soccer snacks. The way to get rave reviews all around: Fruit and vegetables grown locally, picked fresh and served right away. Here’s where to find sweet corn for that grill and crunchy grapes for the kids—to take to school or to eat on the pitch.

Amador County Farmers’ Markets—Highway 49 between the library and Ace Hardware, Jackson, CA, Sundays 9 a.m.–noon; Pine Grove Community Park at Highway 88 and Irishtown Road, Pine Grove, CA, Wednesdays 3–6 p.m.; and the corner of Main Street and Gopher Flat Road in Sutter Creek, CA, Saturdays 9 a.m.–noon.

Angels Camp Certified Farmers’ Market—Utica Park in Historic Downtown Angels Camp, CA, Fridays 5 p.m.–dusk.
