Summer’s End

The days are getting shorter, school bells are ringing, and fall is just around the corner—but seasonal farmers’ markets are still going strong.

In August and September, we are throwing those last summer barbecues, but also packing lunchboxes and signing up to bring soccer snacks. The way to get rave reviews all around: Fruit and vegetables grown locally, picked fresh and served right away. Here’s where to find sweet corn for that grill and crunchy grapes for the kids—to take to school or to eat on the pitch.


Amador County Farmers’ Markets—Highway 49 between the library and Ace Hardware, Jackson, CA, Sundays 9 a.m.–noon; Pine Grove Community Park at Highway 88 and Irishtown Road, Pine Grove, CA, Wednesdays 3–6 p.m.; and the corner of Main Street and Gopher Flat Road in Sutter Creek, CA, Saturdays 9 a.m.–noon.

Angels Camp Certified Farmers’ Market—Utica Park in Historic Downtown Angels Camp, CA, Fridays 5 p.m.–dusk.

Eastern Sierra Certified Farmers’ Markets—behind City Hall on Highway 395 at Church Street in Bishop, CA, Saturdays 9 a.m.–noon, and the Mammoth Luxury Outlet Mall on Highway 203 in Mammoth Lakes, CA, Wednesdays 4–7 p.m.

El Dorado County Farmers’ Markets—the American Legion Hall parking lot, 2732 S. Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe, CA, Tuesdays 8 a.m.–1 p.m.; and Ivy House parking area, corner of Main Street and Cedar Ravine Road, Placerville, CA, Saturdays 8 a.m.–noon.

Nevada City Farmers’ Market—Robinson Plaza on Union Street in Downtown Nevada City, CA, first Saturday of each month 9 a.m.–noon.

Nevada County Certified Growers’ Market—the Nevada County Horsemen facility, 10600 Bubbling Well Road, Grass Valley, CA, Tuesdays 9–11 a.m.

PlacerGROWN Farmers’ Markets— Commons Beach, Commons Beach Road and N. Lake Boulevard, Tahoe City, CA, Thursdays 8 a.m.–1 p.m.
