Just because summer is over doesn’t mean the farm-fresh produce stops.

It’s true many towns shut down their evening street fairs at summer’s end. But there are farmers’ markets still rolling on autumn mornings, not to mention year-round markets and farm boxes, to keep you eating fresh, seasonal and organic— even as the leaves turn crimson and the fireplace beckons. Think root vegetables, perfect for stews or with roasted or braised meats. And nothing finishes a fall dinner like an apple or pear crisp. Finally, don’t miss our region’s famous Mandarin Season, starting in November: Pack up a box of these juicy, easy-to-peel little oranges, along with some mini pumpkin muffins, and you will be the hit of your son’s soccer team.
